Date night ideas - winter lights festivals

Date night ideas -winter lights festivalsThis week’s date night idea is a trip to one of the winter light festivals that pop up around the country at this time of year. What more romantic way to spend an evening and get into the Christmas Spirit. Wrap up warm and take a stroll through one of these spectacular shows. Our pick of the best and brightest in the UK: -

Christmas at Kew Gardens, London. A sparkling archway leads to an enchanting trail of over a million lights, including a flickering fire garden, set out through the glorious gardens and moonlit woods, culminating in a laser show at the palm house. End the evening with a spiced cider, mulled wine or hot chocolate and nibble on roasted chestnuts, toasted marshmallows and other treats.

Enchanted Christmas, Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire. An already breath-taking walk is magically transformed into an illuminated trail through a winter wonderland of trees at the National Arboretum.

The festival of light, Longleat Safari Park, Wiltshire (pictured). Wander through the beautiful grounds of Longleat house where, with a different theme each year, the Chinese lantern displays are sure to dazzle.

Christmas at the Botanics, The Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh. A mile-long trail and a million lights including a flicking fire garden, a lawn filled with globes of light, light installations in the trees and iconic glasshouses. With festive food and drink to keep you as well fed and watered as the plants.

Illuminated Christmas Light Trail, Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire. A festive trail through grand gardens, canopies of light, glowing Christmas trees and spectacular laser display.

Christmas at the Eden Project, Cornwall. Interactive light sculptures, a magically lit rainforest and live music combine in a festive celebration of light and sound.

Magical lantern festival, Botanical Gardens, Birmingham. A visual feast of light set amongst the grandeur of the 60-acre gardens with large lanterns in all shapes, sizes and colours. Festive food and drinks are also available.

The Carnival of light (Cardiff, Leicester, Lincoln, London and Manchester). If you and your other half are up for more of a party atmosphere, these over 18s events promise phenomenal lights, spectacular lantern installations, live performances (dancers, acrobats, puppeteers and Chinese dragons), parades, lasers, CO2, confetti and balloon drops.
